Guess Who's Back? Al Gore - With A Vengeance
Al dadgum Gore, that's who.
If you have not watched his speech today (it's available on C-SPAN's Web site) or read a transcript, go read it now.
Al Gore, a son of Tennessee, made America proud today. How showed insight, intelligence and and a cutting understanding of how government can best serve the people. To wit:
I am heartened to see that he still has the ability to capture a news cycle and to capture the nation's attention. Republicans predictably responded with personal attacks instead of substance. Try as they might, though, there is just no escaping the fact that the current administration has overstepped the boundaries of the rule of law repeatedly and egregiously.
I'll say this: If Al Gore runs for president in 2008, I'll work day and night for him, non-stop. He was elected once, and will be again, if he chooses to run.

At present, we still have much to learn about the NSA's domestic surveillance. What we do know about this pervasive wiretapping virtually compels the conclusion that the president of the United States has been breaking the law, repeatedly and insistently.Applause, indeed. He points to the change in government since the time of his father's service and his service in the Congress:
(APPLAUSE)
A president who breaks the law is a threat to the very structure of our government.
(APPLAUSE)
The Congress we have today is structurally unrecognizable compared to the one in which my father served.
GORE: There are many distinguished and outstanding senators and congressmen serving today. I am honored to know them and to have worked with them.
But the legislative branch of government as a whole, under its current leadership, now operates as if it were entirely subservient to the executive branch.
(APPLAUSE)
